Black Screen on Kodi 17 Krypton How to Fix.

Do you get a Kodi Black screen on starting up Kodi 17  Krypton? If so i am going to show you the fix to cure the problem. And its all to do with the addons.db File.

Hello BFKer’s

I see there has been quite a few posts in the social media sections asking why, when they start Kodi they get a black screen,Then after the black screen it kicks you back out.Apparently this is a common fault when you have upgraded from Kodi 16 to Kodi 17 Krypton.

If you upgrade from Kodi 16 to Kodi 17 Krypton, Kodi 17 Krypton will take the place of Kodi 16’s Database which is run in the background of Kodi.

But as we all know. Everything doesn’t always go according to plan?

Basically it is all to do with the back-end Database which keeps track of you information. This situation is more likely to occur if you have a Build installed and are not automatically compatible with Kodi 17 Krypton.

So how do i Fix it?.Well lets take a look.

The issue is a file called addons.db. So to rectify the issue from the black screen and Kodi crashing we need to delete this file to stop it conflicting with Kodi. First of all we are going to need an app called HD File manager OR ES File explorer which can be easy found and downloaded from google play store.

TIP – Once you have one of the above programs you NEED to make sure you have SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS enabled.

I will show you screenshot from my Windows 10 System as to what the file is but each operating system will have there own Root Directory.

This is the File you will be looking for on all Platforms,And you will notice that it has a number at the end of the file. ie addons27.db NOTE that is still the same file you need to delete

The above shot is for Windows 10. Here are where you are likely to find this directory on other platforms.

After you have Deleted the file RE-BOOT your system.

Below how to get to this file on your device

Android: Android/data/org,kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/Database

iOS: /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/Kodi/userdata/Database

Mac: /Users/<your-user-name>/Library/Application Support/Kodi/userdata/Database

Linux: ~/.kodi/userdata/Database

OpenElec/LibreElec: /storage/,kodi/userdata/Database

Windows: Click start and type %APPDATA%\kodi\userdata\Database

Hope this helps a few of you out if you come across this situation.

Till next time Be good.
