Creating your own Kodi build Part Nine:
Customisation – RSS News Feeds.
I hope you are enjoying the series and managing to put together some of the pieces.
If you’re reading for the first time, welcome. I am sure a lot of you guys will be new to Kodi so why not take a look of some of the great blogs on Bestforkodi.com and have some fun learning.
Creating your Own Kodi build Part Nine is my first blog after Christmas and we are going to be working on editing the RSS feeds as part of the Kodi build.
We have all seen these feeds scrolling across our screens but did you know you can actually change what is on it and customise it to your own requirements.
You may chose to have News headlines from around the world, Sporting News or information from other websites, the choices are pretty much endless.
So let’s get into changing it and see what happens.
The first thing to do is have a look on the internet for what RSS feeds are available, and you may be surprised. Once you find one that interests you make a note of the URL for the feed.
For this example, I will use “Yahoo News”, I found the URL at www.repeatserver.com
http://news.yahoo.com/rss/
OK, so the first thing to do is to download an Add-on that will enable us to edit the RSS feed, strangely enough it’s called “RSS Editor” and we can find it in the Kodi Add-on Repository on our device. Go to Add-ons and Install from Repository, select the Kodi Add-on Repository and then select Program Add-ons.
Now Scroll down and select the RSS Editor
Now install the Add-on
Once that is complete, come out of this and go to System / Appearance.
With Skin highlighted move over and scroll down to Edit as shown below. By the way make sure that Show RSS news feed is turned on !
When you select edit it will automatically open up the RSS Editor Add-on that we just installed.
You will see that we can have three news feeds but unfortunately they are all in use. To fix this we have to overwrite one of the existing news feeds.
If you just click on the feed to overwrite the keyboard screen appears and we can simply delete the existing news feed and put in our own.
When you have entered the URL a number keyboard pops up. This is for you to select the time, in minutes, that the news feed will update, 30 minutes is the default and I just left mine at that and clicked OK.
Once complete, click done and you will see it is now shown.
If you like you can also delete the other news feeds.
Now once this is done, you must re-start kodi for the change to take full effect.
Below, you can see I now have the Yahoo news feed.
Have a play with this, remember you can enter up to three RSS feeds so why not choose a couple more?
Here I have added BBC UK News and Sky News.
That’s enough for this Creating your Own Kodi build Part Nine blog. I hope you have some fun with it, see you in the new year for some great kodi customisation blogs.
I’ve got some really cool stuff coming up in the new year and I know the rest of the team here at Bestforkodi.com have too, so keep checking in on us to stay up to date with the latest tips, tricks and blogs.
