Great alternatives to Kodi for your Android device

Good afternoon Guys and Girls hope you all had a better weekend than me. Hopefully This week will be better.

There has been a lot of talk in the community regarding compatibility of the new Kodi 17 and older Android devices. Even in some quarters they have been saying you need a new device.

Well this wrong. I wrote a blog last week about EBMC which was a fork of Kodi that could be used on Android 4.4 devices. That blog can be read HERE

I have been looking at other options over the weekend and testing on various old devices even 4.2.2 android devices like my trusted Icecube. God i hated this device ???

Click on the green name to download version from your device browser.

SPMC Probably one of the most well known or famous Kodi forks. Brought to you by Koying who was part of the Kodi development team for a while.

This is what Koying had to say about SPMC and what the latest versions require

As far as I’m concerned, Nvidia Shield has basically cornered the market, so is my main development device. More generally, Android TV devices, amlogic devices and Amazon FireTV might be getting some love 😉
Important: No more Rockchip specific support as of this version

Note 1: As of 16.5.0, Android lollipop (API 21) is required
Note 2: For recommendations and android voice search, SPMC must be already running.

Latest Jarvis build is: 16.6.0link

EBMC I Wrote a blog on this last week and how it works great on devices running 4.4 Android. Great alternative to Kodi 17 on your device. 17.1 fork will be available soon.

WOOKIE The guys at team wookie have also brought out A fork as such with there builds on them versions for all 16.1 apk 17.1 apk and a 17.0 for 4.4 android users. (click green writing for apk download screen)

FTMC Freak Tab Media Centre is a fork for Kodi 16.1 Jarvis and provides hardware acceleration and more features on rockchip mainstream chips(rk3228, rk3229, rk3229h, rk3288, rk3368, rk3399) and most android version(Android4.4, 5.x, 6.x). In the case of hardware allowed, FTMC supports 4K2K、4K2K 10bit(H264,HEVC),MVC 3D (bluray & mkv), high profile audio passthrough. And also maintain Android 4.4 support for older devices, also maintain a better support for Amlogic S9xx Chips, and preserving the amlogic AMCODEC (only on Android version from 4.4 to 6.x, since in 7.x amlogic removed the support for it)

CEMC  Looks a very promising Kodi Fork it is compatible with 4.2.2 so works on all our older Android devices and uses Python 2.7(for HTTPS support) for both ARM & X86 devices. This https (TLS V1.2) support is so important as most streaming sites are moving over to this protocol.

This was my favourite of all the forks if I am honest as it was compatible with all devices I threw at it bringing devices back from the dead. Ice Cube running 4.2.2 lives another day with Kodi 17 features happy days.

The guys at CEMC can be followed on twitter HERE

Hope this quick blog helps a few of you guys out have been getting a lot of tweets about this over the last month.
