Hi guys, I really hope you have been enjoying our recent mini series of blogs on Creating your own Build in Kodi 17.

If you haven’t seen these yet then what are you waiting for ? Click here to read Part one.

By the way if you haven’t read the original Create your own blog series Click here for all you need to know.

Today we are going to take a quick look at a little bit of customisation you can do on the default Kodi 17 skin.

This skin is called Estuary (please don’t ask me why) and if you don’t want to go the whole hog with creating your own build, here are a few things you can have a little dabble with.

The great thing about Kodi 17 is that it is way more customisable that previous versions. This means more fun for us!

For example , you can choose which sub-sections show up under sections like TV and Movies, and also pick custom backgrounds and colours. Here’s how to tweak Kodi 17 to look just the way you want it, without going all the way and installing a new skin.

Theme Settings

To access this click the gear icon on the main screen just below the Kodi logo

Now chose Skin Settings

Within the General section there a few tweaks we can make.

If you chose to show weather info it will display the current outside temperature just below the time.

There are also a couple of other options to play with regarding small on screen changes. Why not try toggling them on and off and see what they do.

Home Screen Options

Drop down from General to the Main menu items submenu and you can turn on/off any of the screens that show up in the main menu.

This is really useful and allows you to remove all those redundant options you may not be needing. I really like to keep my choices as limited as possible so I do like the ability to be able to just turn off what I will not be using.

You can even edit what categories show up under each of the main menu items. For example, if you don’t want to see “Recently Viewed” TV shows, or “Currently Watching,” you can remove them by clicking “Edit Categories” under TV Shows. If you want to change this, you’ll be prompted to install the Library Note Editor add-on. Go ahead and choose Yes.

You will now see the list of Categories.

With an item highlighted, bring up the context menu (press C)for all the options.

Background Images

Now drop down to the Artwork menu for some more fun.

The first options, will change the fanart behind your skin depending on the currently selected media. If you select to chose a new fanart pack you will be given options

You can make loads of small changes in this section that can apply to different screens and genres. Have a play and see what tickles your fancy.

Interface Colour

Lets go back to the System Settings screen and select Interface Settings.

Here, you’ll find the option to change the skin’s colour, which gives you a variety of options.

This completely changes the feel of the screen

There you go. Now you’ve seen how to have a little dabble with these options, I’m sure you can be a bit braver when tweaking your system.

Don’t forget, we really want to see just what you can do with your own builds or just the changes to your skin.
