Grendel brings you his latest review of the Q Box from Entertainment Box, this little pocket rocket will smash the budget device market to pieces. If like me have a limited budget then this device is worth a look. At only a few quid more than a Firestick this device even plays 4k.

Well guys, it’s time for another review and this time it’s the eagerly awaited latest product from our great friends over at Entertainment Box.

It’s the Q Box, a brand new box aimed at those with a slightly smaller budget or even those who have not so much space left for another TV box.

Costing a few quid more than the firestick this little box will blow the stick out of the water.

The EBox Q-Box can be purchased here.

This is how the little beauty arrives.

Neatly and safely packaged as always. I’m a big fan of the modular style boxes that Entertainment Box are using now, they really save space and keep things secure.

It’s not just the price tag that’s smaller on this unit but the first thing that strikes you with with this one is its size. If this tiny box measuring in at just 90mm x 90mm x 20mm packs the normal Entertainment Box style punch of power and capabilities it really is a “pocket rocket”!!

The User Manual that comes with the Q Box is far more comprehensive than with any other similar product so a big “hats-off” to the guys at Entertainment Box for putting in the effort on that front

Let’s take a look at the Q Box from all angles.

Along with the HDMI and Ethernet ports the Q box comes with 2 USB 2.0 ports, Optical output and SD card support.

The Cross shaped LED on the front of the unit lights up blue when powered on and red when powered off.

One really cool feature of the Q box is that I comes with a bracket that enables you to fix it directly to the back of your TV.

This little bracket can be fixed to the back of your TV or the wall by the sticky pad provided.

The Q box really is that small !

Here’s a photo of the Q box fixed to close friend of mines TV.

I have already reminded him that he needs to get the duster out ! (Thanks Grendel lol Sparky will get the wife on the case)

Infa red

Included is an Infa-Red (IR) sensor which you will need to place somewhere your remote can see if you intend to use the supplied remote.

This comes supplied with a handy double sided sticker to make placement secure.

I must admit, although this is a vast improvement on some of the basic remotes it really does not live up to either the RII Remote Keyboard or S77 Pro Air Mouse.

We have tested both of these with the Q Box and both worked seamlessly.

Would therefore recommend you consider one of these option when purchasing your Q Box.

If you choose one of the above options you wont need that IR sensor as they work wirelessly with a USB dongle. I tested mine tucked away right behind the TV and it still worked fine.

Another bonus is that the power button on the S77 Air Mouse worked right off the bat for powering on and off on the Q Box. Of course there is always the option to customise a power button should you chose.

With the Q box on the back of the TV, there are minimal cables in view keeping things nice and tidy.

The Q box performed equally well via the internal 2.4G wireless adaptor or the 10/100 Ethernet port.

This came as a pleasant surprise as I was not sure if it would get a good wireless signal stuck behind the TV. It was all was fine.

There is no problem either utilising high Ethernet speeds on the Q Box. I know some boxes out there struggle to handle todays fast speeds.

The Q box comes  with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

I have not previously used but this combined with the S950x chip makes navigation silky smooth.

Every bit as good as any other device.

With 16GB eMMc on board memory and 2GB of RAM the little Q Box certainly punches above its weight.

The launcher is new, simple and clear which we at BFK are big fans of for sure.

The Q box runs EBMC. Those familiar with other Entertainment Box products will know is their own super smart Kodi fork based on SPMC 16.4.1.

The advantages of this Spmc is developed for android devices. This makes it work better than Kodi on your Android device.

I quickly popped a copy of the Wookie Lite build onto the Q-Box to take a look at few features.

The build loaded very quickly via wireless and I was up and running in no time in Full HD.

4k playback

I did however notice that in order to play 4K video it performed far better when connected via Ethernet.

While doing this review, I downloaded and installed a couple of Apps to help me with Screenshots etc. I also used the pre installed File Browser to copy, paste and move files around utilising a USB Flash drive.

All with no problems.

The guys are offering the Q Box with a huge variety of different accessories. You really can choose and customise your own configuration.

Summary

I was really looking forward to testing this latest product from Entertainment box.

The Q Box has not disappointed.

It really has handled just about everything me and Sparky can throw at it. Fair play to Entertainment Box on this one.

If you’re looking for a “Box on a Budget”. You’re a bit short of shelf space? You are just looking at getting a product like this for the first time. We can certainly recommend this one.
