The John Lewis advert was unveiled at 8am this morning and stars a man who lives on the Moon.

This year the retailer has teamed up with Age UK for advert.

It’s song is Oasis’s Half the World Away, famously used as the theme tune to the Royle Family sitcom, and sung by 19-year-old Norwegian singer Aurora Asknes .

The full two-minute ad features the whimsical story of a young girl named Lily as she strikes up a connection with an elderly man who she watches through her telescope living alone on the moon.

She sets out to wish him a merry Christmas, She finally succeeds by sending up the present of a telescope of his own tied to a bunch of balloons, much appreciated by the man in a scene that will likely cause at least some viewers to have a tear in their eye.

Its a great story and its good to see them teaming up with Age UK in an effort to raise awareness of the million older people who go for a month, not just at Christmas, without speaking to a friend, neighbor or family.
