Entertainment Box T8 V Review

Guys, can you believe it’s already 2017 !!!

The year has certainly started with a bang as we have the brand spanking new product to review from our great friends at Entertainment Box.

This is the eagerly awaited latest version of the all conquering T8 series, it’s the T8 V.

There is no doubt in my mind that this series of Android TV boxes is without doubt, head and shoulders above any other. Many have tried to copy and emulate this forerunner in its class but none have succeeded. With this in mind, just a quick reminder, there are many below par copies of T8 boxes out there.  The only way you can buy a genuine product and guarantee you are getting this market leading device is to purchase from the guys at Entertainment box themselves.

We say this a lot, Please, please, please do not buy from other sources, there are too many fake and sometimes dangerous devices out there, stay away from them.

OK, back to this new blockbuster. The T8 V. I guess the V means FIVE as this box supersedes the T8 V4 and although it retained the same look as the V4 it packs a much bigger punch for sure.

Out of the box.

When this Goliath of T8 boxes arrives on your doorstep, the boxing, as always with Entertainment Box products is very secure and up to date.

Flipping the box over gives us a quick taster of just what’s in store!

Inside we can find the box itself neatly supported and wrapped, and underneath, the rest of the goodies that come with it. I just have the standard package of equipment with this one but there is a huge number of options available at the time of ordering should you wish to spice up your package a bit.

Mouse/Keyboard Options

I can certainly recommend upgrading to an Air Mouse such at the S77 Pro or even a keyboard with mouse pad such as the Rii i12 which is what I am using right now to put this together as well as to keeping a tight lead on the T8 V which is rearing to go.

You can read more about these items by clicking on the items below.

Rii i12 Keyboard

S77 Air Mouse

With the T8 V all plugged in, it sits nice alongside the Rii i12 keyboard and is ready to be set free!

Another quick note, we always advise that you use the power adaptor that is supplied with your product and this is very important. You may have a similar device or even a previous version in the T8 series (like me) and be tempted to keep the same power adaptor plugged in and just swap over the boxes. Please don’t do this and only use the power adaptor that is supplied with your product. So like me, its well worth the crawling around being the TV to swap them over to prevent any possible damage to your new product.

On the Outside

Back to the T8 V itself. Its very similar in looks to the V4 but the V comes in all black which I have to say looks classy.

Underneath you will find an easily removable cover which is where you can connect a SATA drive should you require. This certainly beats taking out the screws like in the past on my old T8 V3 S. No more searching around in the floor for that screw I just dropped ! I know this feature is one that made the V4 popular but I’m liking the V more and more and I haven’t even powered it up yet !

The side of the unit provides two USB 2.0 ports and a SD/MMC slot. I quickly insert the dongle for my keyboard into one of the slots and a Memory stick into the other. I am going to use the Memory stick to transfer screen shots to my PC in order to insert them into this review.

Around the back of the T8 V is the usual connection ports including another USB port and an OTG-HDD port which can be used for Game Controllers or even external hard drives.

Launcher and Settings

OK let’s fire this thing up and see what it looks like on screen.

The first thing I notice is just how much quicker this box fires up than any other box I have owned. The groovy Entertainment Box Flash keeps me amused during the much improved boot process.

The green graphics in the top right corner highlight that I am connected via Ethernet and I have a USB drive plugged in.

Amlogic S912

This faster boot is the first bonus that the new Amlogic S912 64 bit Octa-core ARM processor gives us as it comes in to replace the previous Penta-core GPU found in the T8 V4 and it really is a noticeable difference already. This is not just a small tweak, it is a step change. The faster more powerful processor allows new features to be added to the V that the guys at Entertainment Box, I’m sure have been waiting to include. HD streaming and 4K quality is almost a given in todays world and together with high performance and resolution gaming all becomes available so much easier.

Additionally, running the latest Android operating system 6.0.1 is just like squirting WD40 into the system, it just makes everything silky smooth.

The T8 V also boasts 4K HDR at 60Hz, this is a new technology that allows for a richer experience and improved picture quality. Top quality latest technology is really finding its way to us in the T8 V.

10-bit deep colour gives you 1024 shades of each primary colour making the T8 V totally compatible with the latest TVs and even many yet to be released. If your thinking of getting a new TV in the January sales, the T8 V will help show off all those new features.

Well enough of the specification, what does it mean when we want to Stream content to our TV which to be fair is what most of us want right?

A thing of Beauty.

If you’ve owned a previous box before you will notice a significant improvement with the T8 V, of that you can rest assured.

It is just a dream to work and so far in the testing I have done, it has been faultless. I know Sparky is also putting one through its paces as we speak and it’s going to be a perfect match for his new TV. Keep an eye out on Twitter @Bestforkodi for the latest.

With the T8 V fired up the launcher is not too dissimilar to previous versions and I like the new settings pages particularly as it just makes the whole thing much simpler. If your new to things, don’t worry it just got a lot easier.

Clicking into settings opens up the options.

Connecting a bluetooth device couldn’t be easier for those of you who got one of them fancy 3D surround sound systems for Christmas (not that I’m jealous).  The T8 V sound options will support just about any popular format. Just click the Advanced tab and your into all of the finer details.

Miracast and Air Play are also there for all those compatible devices allowing you to link up seamlessly.

Applications

Back to the launcher and into All Apps

2016_12_30_15-58-02

There are plenty of really useful applications already loaded on the T8 V but of course you have plenty of room to add just about as many as you like.

Already loaded, I particularly like the EBox Store where you can find some essential applications categorised neatly already for you.

EBMC

Once I had a look around I started up the EBMC and quickly installed the Wookie build. I know I’m connected via Ethernet, but when I say quickly installed, I mean , in a flash!

While on the subject of Ethernet the 1 giga bit connection deals perfectly with all of the high speed internet services available nowadays. The T8 V allows us see the benefit of the improved services some of us are now getting from our internet providers. The built in speed test lets you check.

2016_12_30_15-30-48

If you can’t connect via Ethernet, the Dual Band 2.4GHz/5.8GHz wireless adapter is more than man enough to hook you up. I did several tests using the Wi-Fi and could hardly notice the difference.

The user guide that comes with the T8 V is clear and concise telling you all you need to know in order to get underway. Included in this is also some key instructions on either Ethernet or Wireless connecting.

Builds should you choose to install one

On a side note, I’ve not looked at the Wookie builds for a while and I have to say, hats off to the Wookie team on this latest version.

Its super smooth on the T8 V and features like the widgets on the movies page are shown off to perfection, well done guys !

Those of us familiar with Kodi and builds such as the Wookie and others will have experienced the inevitable wait while Add-ons update. Usually this happens when you start up your build or select an initial stream. Well, I was shocked when this happened on the T8 V. I sat for a few seconds in awe of just how fast this was to what I have become accustomed to. Another benefit of the the upgrades and advantages the T8 V gives us.

A quick movie playback check confirmed just how good the spec is. Plays 4K Movies with no issues.

Summary

The tag line for the T8 is “The Latest, Fastest, Smart TV Box”. I have to say, for me the T8 V lives up this with ease. I have always been a huge fan of the T8 series of boxes and although I have not used a V4, I have been firmly attached to my T8 V3S for some time now. As mentioned earlier, the T8 V is not just a little tweak on the previous version it really is a step change that you cannot fail to notice.

If you are looking for an upgrade or if you are new to TV boxes. The T8 V fits the bill. The technical spec hits the spot for an upgrade as well as suiting the vast majority of latest TV and resolution enhancements.

Not only that, but the easy to use front end will suit new users.

All in all, it’s a huge thumbs up for the T8 V from me.

It looks like my trusty T8 V3 S has finally been knocked off its perch. This is top of my recommendations.

Im sure demand is going to high for this box. The guys at Entertainment Box just keep spoiling us. I’m off to watch the football then catch a movie on the awesome T8 V.

All that remains for me to say is from all the team here at Bestforkodi. We wish you a Happy and Healthy 2017.
