Rii Mini X1 Wireless Keyboard Review

Ok guys, here we go with the next review and this time it’s the turn of the Rii Mini X1 Wireless Keyboard.

Some of you may have read my review of the Rii-I12 keyboard a short while ago. If you missed it please click here.

Well this product to me is really the “little brother of the Rii-I12.

Its a great little device that really does all you would expect from a “mini” so lets have a look in a bit more detail

Starting off, I can never fault the packaging from Rii. These guys really know how to product and present a product. Check out the photos below.

No batteries required for this little devil.

It comes with a multi functional USB charging cable to bring to life its Built-in rechargeable polymer Lithium-ion battery.

When I un-packed my device there was already enough power in it for a quick dabble before I plugged it in to “fully load” the battery.

In the rear of the device is the USB dongle neatly stored and easy to remove.

It comes inside a small holder so once you have removed it and plugged it into your chosen device the holder can go back where it came form an neatly cover the access point.

About the same size as a TV remote, I’m sure you agree, this really looks a great bit of kit, well how does it perform?

You may have recently read my review if the Rii MX3-M Air Mouse, well the question is this.

Is the Mini X1 a step up or a step down from this device? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

For me, yes. If you’ve got a bit more to do that needs a keyboard, this one is certainly better and easier to use than the Rii MX3.

Remember, this is a keyboard and it does not have an Air mouse function.

Don’t try frantically waving this one at your TV as noting will happen. What you do have on this one however, is a compact little Mouse Pad.

This does work nicely but for me its not in same league as big brother on the Rii-I12. Yes it does the job.

Mouse Pad

Having a left and right mouse click button is cool, but I would say using it is not seem less.

A bit like using the keyboard on the Rii MX3. Its there, it performs the function adequately but don’t try using it for sketching / gaming or any other elaborate mouse requirements and you will love it.

Just remember how cool it it is to have a mouse function on such a small and neat device.

To be honest that’s the main thing about this device, it could easily just sit in your top pocket and and you wouldn’t know its even there.

With the dongle neatly stored away, you could take the Rii X1 with you just about anywhere and be up and running in an instant.

As far as using the Rii Mini X1 with your Android TV box there are some functions but not as many as with the Rii MX2-M.

The F2 button does take you to your Android home screen and using the function keys you can control volume etc.

The device does have some cool LED’s that show you battery power etc. The device does have a sleep mode which it will enter after 3 minutes to save your battery life.

For me?

I have to say the Rii Mini X1 wireless keyboard is just that.

It may sound obvious but it is a Mini wireless keyboard and that’s how you should treat it. For this function its very cool but for use as a TV box controller, go for the Rii MX3-M instead.

Better still, if your box has enough USB ports why not have both! I did test both units plugged into the same T8-V3s and both worked fine alongside one another, why not use one as a controller and one as a keyboard.
